Replacement bus services
will operate

Brixton's Tube station will be closed for
nine days to remove asbestos from the south London
terminal.
The station, which is at the end
of the Victoria Line, shut on Saturday and will
re-open on 17 April.
Asbestos dust can cause serious
illness if inhaled but London Underground (LU) said
it was safe in its current state.
Trains will terminate at
Stockwell and a high frequency rail replacement bus
service will operate between Stockwell and Brixton.
In 2003 the station was closed
for three weeks after asbestos was found during
work to escalators and lifts.
John Doyle, General Manager of
the Victoria Line, said: "There is no safety risk
to our customers and staff as the asbestos has not
been disturbed and in that state it is safe. Air
quality is being continually monitored by our
asbestos control unit."
Improving the station is part of
Transport for London's five year, £10bn plan to
upgrade public transport.
Brixton station is estimated to
have an average of 12,000 passengers travelling
through it every day.
